The Junior Orange Bowl celebrated the unveiling of the organization’s 65th Parade Theme last week with a reception at the Coral Gables Hyatt Regency. Members, friends and honored guests gathered as Junior Orange Bowl Parade Chair Kathleen Kauffman and President Dr. Robert Bueso revealed the theme “Illumination Spectacular” for the annual community Parade. The Junior Orange Bowl Parade is going back to its roots as a nighttime community event and this year’s anniversary celebration promises to be unforgettable. “With this event, parade participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents under the lights through beautiful downtown Coral Gables!” says Kauffman.
This year’s Parade date will be Sunday, December 1, the first Sunday after Thanksgiving. “We hope that the new Parade date will allow us to fill this year’s parade with many new and exciting floats, cultural marching units and spectacular visual performers.” says Kauffman. “The new date offers the Coral Gables community a fun-filled and family oriented event during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend”.
“The 65th Anniversary, or ‘Diamond Jubilee year’ is upon us at the Junior Orange Bowl”, says Bueso. “The Illumination Spectacular’ will celebrate the many memories made in the past, and cheer those that are still to form a part of our rich tapestry in the future. I urge all our past co-celebrants to return; similarly, I’d encourage all potential new participants to become engaged with the Junior Orange Bowl and join me in admiring the wondrous prism of light that emanates from children’s future”.
The Junior Orange Bowl Parade Committee also honored the float award winners from last year’s 64th Parade. In attendance was Enrique Lopez and Elizabeth Martinez from Dade Medical College of the University of Southernmost Florida, which won the Bank of Coral Gables President’s Choice Award. Other float winners included the City of North Miami, Miami Children’s Hospital, the Village of Pinecrest, and Shake-A-Leg.
The 65th Junior Orange Bowl Parade will once again march through the streets of downtown Coral Gables along Miracle Mile and Biltmore Way. The annual Parade is the flagship event of the Junior Orange Bowl Festival Season, which consists of nearly 20 athletic, academic, and cultural youth events that are all held in South Florida.
