Sports Ability Games

About the Event:

Each year, the Junior Orange Bowl hosts its Sports Ability Games at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School, welcoming more than 1,200 students with physical and cognitive disabilities for a day dedicated entirely to them.

In partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, students from across the community are brought together to participate in a variety of adapted sports, friendly competitions and recreational activities designed to encourage participation, confidence and inclusion.

Similar in spirit to the Special Olympics, the Sports Ability Games provide an environment where every student has the opportunity to compete, celebrate their abilities and experience the excitement and camaraderie of sport. Throughout the day, participants receive lunch, giveaways and the opportunity to take part in activities alongside their peers in a supportive and energetic environment.

The impact extends far beyond a single day of competition. The program creates a meaningful opportunity for students who may not always have access to traditional athletic events to experience belonging, achievement, teamwork and recognition, while bringing together schools, educators, volunteers and the broader community in celebration of their abilities.
